Relocation to Elgin Street

Information on the Prospective Move of St. Philip Parish to St. Mary Facility

Please

The tour of St. Mary on Elgin Street, on Sunday September 28 provided a great deal of information on how the St. Philip parish feels about the move. The full report with opinions will be shared shortly; in the meantime, we can report that we had the responses of 100 parishioners. Questions were on a five point scale (with 5 = agree). Results in summary as follows:

  • On the question "It is a bright inviting facility", there was weak agreement (3.60 average)
  • On the question "I can see it being a useful tool for enabling St. Philip’s congregation to grow in ministry.", there again was weak agreement (3.39 average).
  • On the question "I can imagine changes to the existing facility of St. Mary that would make it a more valuable tool for ministry", there was agreement (4.09 average)
  • On the question "I hope this move will take place", there was weak agreement (3.12 average).
  • Lastly, on the question, "Moving to St. Mary's would be negative for St. Philip", there was weak disagreement (2.88 average).

The survey suggests we do not have consensus in our parish about the practicality of a move to St. Mary.

The key concern is that we are able to develop a plan - including spiritual, community, financial and logistical elements - that makes the move a practical consideration. Then, if we have decided that the needs of both parishes require a move, we shall be able to determine if its desirable and work out what needs to happen to make it something that everyone can live with wholeheartedly. This plan will be shared shortly.
